Sleep
Sleep, precious child,
sleep.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
There is no other sound
but your own little breath.
The night is perfectly still
and you are safe here,
safe in this cocoon of a bed.
So sleep, child.
Sleep, dear
love,
sleep.
Nothing can
get to you.
I've said so, haven't I?
Now rest your eyes,
because the day has been long,
and tomorrow promises to be
even longer.
It's not here yet, but will be soon.
So while you can, please sleep.
Winter rages.
Summer burns.
Spring and autumn desperately try
to figure out what they should be.
None of this means anything right now.
None of this changes the fact that
the night sky is black,
the wind moves crisp and gentle,
the pillow softly rubs,
and the earth's sway is like the rocking of the arms of
a mother you never knew.
So please,
my dear child,
please, please, sleep.
And I am there
beside you.
